Luminous Counterpoint explores the relationship between colour, rhythm, and the invisible structures that organise the natural world. Inspired by phyllotaxis — the principles governing the arrangement of leaves, seeds, and other botanical elements — this painting reflects my fascination with the way simple patterns of growth can evolve into complex visual systems.
The idea emerged from thinking about the relationship between geometry and music. In a musical composition, independent melodies can move simultaneously, maintaining their individual identities while contributing to a unified structure. I began to see a similar possibility in geometric abstraction: hundreds of separate lines, each with its own position, length, and colour, could become parts of a larger visual rhythm.
